Ring currents and magnetic properties of solid benzene
Nail Suleimanov

The diamagnetic ring currents of aromatic molecular systems such as benzene are dissipationless currents similar in many respects to the persistent currents of superconducting rings. Both are arising as the response to applied external magnetic field. To detect the ring current in single molecule by using magnetic methods is the complicated task because the moment from an individual ring is at the sensitivity limit of the best magnetic detectors and each ring is expected to contribute a moment with a random sign. In this presentation the approach is developed based on concept of magnetic alignment. Some preliminary results of magnetic measurements on the magnetically aligned benzene in temperature range 2 – 300 K will be considered.
