In recent years, a large number of works was devoted to the study of new materials, such as Heusler alloys, manganites, rare-earth elements compounds etc., in which the magnetic and structural phase transitions (PT) occur near room temperature, and are accompanied by significant changes of entropy in a magnetic field. It is noted that at present, the PTs in new materials are studied mainly by indirect methods, and therefore, there is an urgent need for a new experimental direct methods of investigation of PTs in high magnetic fields. The report is devoted to the design and test of extraction calorimeter in Bitter coil. The results of preliminary experiments on measurements of ΔT (adiabatic temperature change) and Q (cooling capacity) in the field up to 14 T of Gd and metamagnetic Heusler alloy Ni43Mn37.9In12.1Co7 with inverse magnetocaloric effect are discussed.
