Quantum-chemical perspective on photoinduced electron transfer in DNA and RNA

d hab. Rafał Szabla

Politechnika Wrocławska

Electron transport and photoinduced electron transfer between stacked nucleobases have attracted substantial attention owing to their importance in DNA photochemistry and protection from photodamages. This phenomenon was also suggested to have possible applications including the construction of biomolecular nanoelectronic devices (e.g. for signalling) and development of modern therapies targeting nucleic acids. In this talk, I will explore the mechanistic details of charge transfer through DNA and demonstrate how the insights obtained with quantum chemical calculations can be used to predict specific properties of modified DNA oligonucleotides.
