Abstract:

Four-wave mixing (FWM) spectroscopy is a powerful tool to investigate quantum mechanical few-level systems, allowing to resolve directly the dynamics of the coherences in such systems. In this talk I will give an introduction to the FWM micro-spectroscopy method, focusing on the theoretical modelling of the optical signals. After that I will present recent joint theoretical and experimental work on FWM spectroscopy of a quantum dot (QD) embedded in a micropillar cavity [1]. The structure is described using the Jaynes-Cummings model, extended by a coupling of the QD to acoustical phonons of the host lattice. The work focuses mainly on the dependence of the optical signals on the pulse area of the exciting laser pulses, used to pump the micropillar cavity. In this way, situations where up to ~20 photons are injected into the cavity, are investigated theoretically and experimentally.
