Fermi surface reconstruction in high-temperature superconductors

A number of recent experiments have highlighted a remarkable transformation of a conventional large cuprate Fermi surface in the overdoped regime into small pockets in the underdoped region signalling a breakdown of a conventional Fermi liquid theory.In the present talk, we show that this effect can be captured by the standard microscopic $t-J$ model of correlated electrons, provided strong electron correlations are properly taken into consideration.
