Research Progress on Thermal Management of New Energy Vehicles

Prof. Huiming Zou

Technical Institute of physics and chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences

The expansion of vehicle functions raises higher requirements for thermal management, whose core task is to ensure passenger comfort and stable operation of electrical components by regulating temperature and humidity. Heat pump technology is key to efficient thermal management of new energy vehicles, but it faces prominent bottlenecks in practice: severe low-temperature performance degradation, high anti-fog regulation energy consumption, urgent low-carbon refrigerant substitution, as well as high operating pressure and large fresh air load. Targeted solutions are proposed, including heat pump optimization, intelligent return air utilization and natural refrigerant adoption. By using air source/waste heat for heating, realizing 3E temperature control and recovering waste humidity, system performance is improved, energy consumption reduced, and low-carbon development requirements met.
