Curie temperature change induced by hydrogen in Gd: Correlation between experiment and theory

Prepared by distillation high-purity Gd is a sample consisting of crystalline grains 50-100 nm in size. The effects of small controlled amount of hydrogen on structure and magnetic properties (magnetization, Curie temperature, magnetocaloric effect) of distilled Gd is studied. The enhanced TC after hydrogenation is shown both experimentally and theoretically using first principles calculations for a pure hexagonal close packed Gd and GdH0.2.
