prof. dr hab. Przemysław Jacek Dereń

Przemysław, Jacek Dereń currently, works as a full professor, and head of the Optical Spectroscopy Department of ILT&SR PAS, Wrocław, Poland. He graduated Ph.D. in physics in 1991 and received his habilitation in 2000 at the same Institute. From 2001 to 2015 he held the position of professor of the ILT&SR PAS (equivalent to associate professor in the Commonwealth system).

dr hab. Małgorzata Małecka, prof. INTiBS PAN

In 2004, Malgorzata Malecka obtained her degree from the Faculty of Chemical Technology and Engineering at the Szczecin University of Technology. In 2009 she received a doctoral degree and in 2017 a habilitation degree. Since 2024 she has been the head of the Department of Chemistry of Nanomaterials and Catalysis.

A chemist, a specialist in transmission electron microscopy. Her research focuses on the synthesis and analysis of nanomaterials and hierarchical catalysts based on cerium oxide. She is interested in searching for new active catalysts for environmental applications.

dr hab. eng. Jacek Ćwik

Jacek Ćwik from 2018 is acting deputy head of the Division of Low Temperature and Superconductivity at the Institute of Low Temperature and Structure Research Polish Academy of Sciences in Wroclaw. He started his scientific career in 2000 after graduating in Material Engineering Technical University of Wroclaw, Faculty of Fundamental Problems of Technology in Poland. After graduation, he worked as an Assistant at the International Laboratory of High Magnetic Fields and Low Temperatures, Wroclaw. In 2006 he defended his doctoral dissertation - Institute of Inorganic Chemistry and Rare Earth Elements, Wroclaw, Poland Thesis : “Structural and physical properties of HoNi2 – MNi2 , (M = Sc, Y, La, Lu)”. In 2012 he became group leader at the International Laboratory of High Magnetic Fields and Low Temperatures involved in the study of materials with significant effects induced by the magnetic field. In 2016 he obtained his habilitation in Physics Sciences Institute of Molecular Physics Polish Academy of Sciences, Poznan, Poland – “The influence of modifying composition on magnetic and magnetocaloric properties for chosen solid solutions of Laves phase structure”. Since 2017 he has been working as an assistant professor at the Institute of Low Temperature and Structure Research Polish Academy of Sciences in Wroclaw.

His scientific interests are focused on the fabrication of intermetallic compounds with specific magnetic properties via the arc melting method, measurements of their thermomagnetic and thermodynamic properties, he is the co-author of a unique experimental system for direct measurements of the magnetocaloric effect using high magnetic fields generated by resistance Bitter type-magnet.

Dr hab. Anna Gągor, prof. ILTSR PAS graduated from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of the University of Rzeszów in 2002. Since then, she has been associated with the Institute of Low Temperature and Structural Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences where she completed her doctoral studies (2007), habilitation (2017), and got a professorship (2022). In 2011 she was a scholarship holder of the Foundation for Polish Science in the START program. Presently she is a member of the Scientific Council of the Institute, a member of the Polish Society of Crystallography, and a Commission on Inorganic and Mineral Structures associated with the International Union of Crystallography. For 20 years, she has been a co-organizer of the Polish Crystallographic Meeting (Konwersatorium Krystalograficzne) which is an annual meeting place and a forum for the exchange of views of all Polish crystallographers. Her interdisciplinary research focuses on:

• structural analysis of crystalline materials via x-ray diffraction
• phase transitions in ferroic and multiferroic materials
• structure-property relations in organic-inorganic hybrids
• disordered, commensurately, and incommensurately modulated structures.

Received his MSc in Physics from the University of Wroclaw in 1988, a PhD, and a habilitation in Physics from the Institute of Low Temperature and Structure Research, Polish Academy of Sciences, in 1997 and 2008, respectively. Since 2014 he has been employed as an Institute professor. In September 2021 he was awarded the title of Professor in Physics. In the meantime, Piotr Wiśniewski was a post-doctoral fellow at Laboratoire Léon Brillouin, CEA/CNRS, Saclay, France (1997-1998) and at Osaka University, Japan (1998-2000).

The current research of Piotr Wiśniewski focuses on the exploration of emergent quantum phenomena in intermetallic materials through studies of their magnetic properties, electronic structure and superconducting state. His expertise comprises: the growth and characterization of single crystals, measurements of their magnetic and thermal properties, determination of magnetic structures with neutron diffraction, and characterization of Fermi surface properties via quantum oscillations in magnetic susceptibility, magnetoresistance, and magnetostriction.

prof. dr hab. eng. Artur Bednarkiewicz

Artur Bednarkiewicz received his MSc Eng. in Physics and Biomedical Engineering from the Wroclaw University of Technology in Wroclaw, Poland, in 1993 and a PhD, habilitation and Institute professorship in Physics from the Institute of Low Temperature and Structure Research, Polish Academy of Sciences, in 1998, 2013 and 2015 respectively. After postdoctoral research in the European Commission Joint Research Centre, Italy, in December 2008 he returned to ILT&SR PAS. He simultaneously established and led an interdisciplinary team NAOMIS with the Wroclaw Research Center EIT+ focusing on Nanoparticle Assisted Molecular Imaging and Sensing. He is now afiliated with Polish Academy of Sciences as a full professor and vice director of the Institute. His current interdisciplinary research focuses on

• optical nano(bio)spectroscopy, imaging, sensing;
• novel designs of lanthanide doped nanoparticles biolabels towards photon avalanche, stimulated emission depletion microscopy, thermometry, biosensing;  
• upconversion FRET (bio)sensing;
• reservoir computing using photon avalanching materials;
• optical and spatial light modulation engineering;
• pure physics, spectroscopy and chemistry of lanthanide doped materials.
