Przemysław, Jacek Dereń currently, works as a full professor, and head of the Optical Spectroscopy Department of ILT&SR PAS, Wrocław, Poland. He graduated Ph.D. in physics in 1991 and received his habilitation in 2000 at the same Institute. From 2001 to 2015 he held the position of professor of the ILT&SR PAS (equivalent to associate professor in the Commonwealth system).

In 2008 he received University Professor Qualifications by Ministere de l'Enseignement Superieur et de la Recherche, France, SECTION 30 - Diluted and Optical Media, SECTION 31- Theoretical, Physical, Analytical Chemistry, SECTION 33 - Materials Chemistry (Numbers of professors qualifications obtained: 08130190232, 08131190232, 08133190232, respectively)

Research interests:

Phosphors for WLED, phosphors working in VUV and UVC region, perovskites, double perovskites, laser materials, non-linear phenomena, up and down conversion, the avalanche of photons, spectroscopy of U3+, rare-earth and transition metal ions.

  • 1991 - in the group of prof. H.U.Güdel, University of Bern, Switzerland (3 months), grant of Swiss Ministry for Sciences. Subject: spectroscopy of the transition metal ions.

Students and didactic activity

  • J. Dereń was a Doctoral Advisor of six doctorates in physics and chemistry at the ILT&SR PAS and the University of Zielona Góra and the promoter of twenty master's theses in physics and chemistry.
  • J.D. looked after dozens of interns, including students from l’Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Chimie de Clermont-Ferrand, France, Institut Universitaire Technologique à Lannion, Université de Rennes I, the Wrocław University of Technology, and the University of Wrocław.
  • Semester lectures at the Wrocław University of Technology in the years 2001 - 2008 entitled "Spectroscopy of laser materials".
