Przemysław, Jacek Dereń currently, works as a full professor, and head of the Optical Spectroscopy Department of ILT&SR PAS, Wrocław, Poland. He graduated Ph.D. in physics in 1991 and received his habilitation in 2000 at the same Institute. From 2001 to 2015 he held the position of professor of the ILT&SR PAS (equivalent to associate professor in the Commonwealth system).

Research interests:
Phosphors for WLED, phosphors working in VUV and UVC region, perovskites, double perovskites, laser materials, non-linear phenomena, up and down conversion, the avalanche of photons, spectroscopy of U3+, rare-earth and transition metal ions.

- J. Dereń was a Doctoral Advisor of six doctorates in physics and chemistry at the ILT&SR PAS and the University of Zielona Góra and the promoter of twenty master's theses in physics and chemistry.
- J.D. looked after dozens of interns, including students from l’Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Chimie de Clermont-Ferrand, France, Institut Universitaire Technologique à Lannion, Université de Rennes I, the Wrocław University of Technology, and the University of Wrocław.
