DESCRIPTION:
Director of the Institute of Low Temperature and Structure Research, PAS announces a competition for the position of assistant professor (in Polish: adiunkt) in the Division of Structure Research.
Research task: Polymorphism and mechanisms of structural phase transitions in new functional materials.
Responsibilities for the position include:
- Synthesis of organic–inorganic hybrid compounds based on metal halides.
- Single-crystal, powder, and thin-film X-ray diffraction measurements.
- Structural analysis using single-crystal and powder diffraction data; determination of polymorphic structures, including disordered and modulated phases.
- Investigation of phase transitions and structure-properties relations.
- Preparation of research reports, deposition of structures in crystallographic databases, writing scientific publications, and presenting research results at national and international conferences.
- Acquisition of external research funding, including preparation of research project proposals for the National Science Centre (NCN) grant competitions.
- Participation in organizing scientific conferences and science popularization events;
- Supervision of interns and doctoral students undertaking internships at Division of Structure Research.
Requirements:
- PhD degree in chemical sciences obtained within the last eight years from the date of the competition announcement.
- Experience in the synthesis of organic–inorganic perovskites.
- Experience in X-ray diffraction measurements of single crystals, powders, and thin films.
- Experience in solving crystal structures (including disordered and modulated ones) and in analyzing structural mechanisms of phase transitions.
- Experience in performing and interpreting spectroscopic measurements (Raman, IR, linear optics).
- Documented scientific achievements in the above areas, confirmed by authorship or co-authorship of publications in peer-reviewed international journals.
- Familiarity with scientific software: ShelX, CrysAlisPro, Olex2, Diamond, Vesta, PLATON, Mercury, HighScore, Origin.
- Experience in leading a research project will be an asset.
- Fluent command of English.
- Ability to work in a team and good communication skills.
- Readiness to start work on January 1, 2026 (taking into account formal procedures related to residence and work permit in Poland).

- A diploma or a copy of the diploma in English or Polish (if in another language, an English translation must also be attached) confirming completion of the doctoral degree. If the diploma was obtained abroad, the candidate will be required to provide a legalised or apostilled original of the diploma before starting employment at the Institute (otherwise it will not be possible to conclude an employment contract). In the case of a degree obtained abroad which is not recognised in Poland on the basis of international agreements, the candidate will apply to the Institute for its nostrification.
