DESCRIPTION:

Director of the Institute of Low Temperature and Structure Research, PAS announces a competition for the position of assistant professor (in Polish: adiunkt) in the Division of Theory of Condensed Matter

Description of the research task:

Theoretical analysis of a system of strongly correlated bosons with off-diagonal disorder, using the Bose-Hubbard model, in which the disorder is included in the density-density term. Within this task, it will be necessary to carry out analytical calculations using, among others, the replica method and the Trotter-Suzuki method to obtain self-consistent equations for the order parameters and other system parameters. The next step will be the implementation of an efficient numerical code which solves these equations, employing algorithmic optimization of the code, advanced knowledge of an efficient programming language (e.g. C++), as well as parallelization on supercomputers. Using these tools, the candidate will analyze the phase diagram of the considered system, including characterizing the phases using the order parameters of glassiness and superfluidity.

Responsibilities for the position include:

  • theoretical description of a strongly correlated system of bosons with off-diagonal disorder
  • carrying out analytical calculations using, among others, the replica method and the Trotter-Suzuki method
  • creation and development of own software allowing for parallel computations on supercomputers
  • conducting numerical calculations using aforementioned software
  • analysis and interpretation of the obtained results
  • dissemination of the results in the form of publications and conference presentations

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • PhD degree in physical sciences, received within the last three years from this position announcement
  • publications in the area of interest of this position announcement, obtained within the last six years from the announcement
  • knowledge of English at least at the B2 level

Skills:

  • knowledge of methods of theoretical description of highly correlated and glassy systems, in particular the replica method and the Trotter-Suzuki method
  • advanced skill in programming in an efficient programming language (e.g. C++) and in solving complex algorithmic problems
  • the ability to convey research results orally and in the form of publications

Specific Requirements:

  • experience in creating software used for numerical calculations applied to the problems of quantum statistical mechanics
  • experience in using computing clusters and high-performance workstations with the Linux operating system
  • experience in implementing efficient code allowing for parallelization of calculations
  • preference will be given to candidates whose record shows that they have the tools necessary to perform the planned tasks

List of documents required from the candidate:

  1. A diploma or a copy of the diploma in English or Polish (in the case of being issued in another language, an English translation must be attached) confirming possession of a required doctoral degree (in the case of a degree obtained abroad, which is not recognized in Poland based on the international agreements, the candidate will apply to the Institute for its nostrification https://nawa.gov.pl/images/users/642/Nostrification-of-academic-degrees_1.pdf ).
  2. An application for employment addressed to the Director of the Institute containing the following clause: " I agree for processing my personal data enclosed in my documents for the needs necessary of the recruitment (in accordance with art. 6 par. 1 lit. A of the General Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council (EU) 2016/679 of 27 April 2016 on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data and the repeal of Directive 95/46 / EC and the Act of 10 May 2018 on protection of personal data (Journal of Laws 2018 item 1000)”.
  3. Scientific Curriculum Vitae, containing information about the scientific career (education and employment), as well as information on participation in conferences, internships, projects, awards and distinctions, skills and knowledge of foreign languages.
  4. List of publications.
  5. Concise information on previous scientific achievements.

When signing the contract, the candidate will be required to submit an authorization to inclusions in the number of employees engaged in the scientific activity at the Institute.

Procedure for submitting documents:

Complete documents should be submitted in electronic version via the e-mail address:   with the title “Application for an assistant professor position in OTMS” by 03.07.2023; 3PM
