Dominika Czekanowska among the 100 finalists of EU TalentOn 2026

We are pleased to announce that our PhD student, Dominika Czekanowska from the Optical Spectroscopy Division, has been selected among the 100 finalists of the EU TalentOn 2026 competition, selected from a total of 1,317 applications from across Europe.
EU TalentOn is a prestigious competition for young scientists who, in international and interdisciplinary teams, seek innovative answers to key societal and environmental challenges. Participants work on solutions aligned with the European Union's missions, developing research competencies and international collaboration.
Dominika Czekanowska has qualified for the "Restore our Ocean and Waters" thematic area, dedicated to the protection and restoration of aquatic ecosystems. In September, she will meet with the other finalists in Brest, France, where she will participate in an intensive week of workshops, lectures, and expert consultations. The most important element of the program, however, will be working in international teams on innovative solutions to improve the aquatic environment.
Dominika Czekanowska's research project, which received high praise from the competition jury, is based on the use of sonophotocatalytic membranes to purify water from Contaminants of Emerging Concern (CECs) – newly emerging pollutants that pose an increasing challenge to modern water treatment technologies.
The team to which she is assigned will collaborate on the project and present it to the jury and the public. The winning team will have the opportunity to win the grand prize of €80,000, as well as a special jury prize of €12,000, awarded to the project with the greatest potential for social and environmental impact.
