The Institute of Low Temperature and Structural Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Wrocław announces a competition to fill the position of assistant professor (in Polish: adiunkt) in the Division of Magnetics, contractor of the research project „Synthesis and characterization of multifunctional half-Heusler compounds with tunable topological quantum effects” (Synteza i charakterystyka wielofunkcyjnych faz Heuslera o przestrajalnych topologicznych efektach kwantowych”; grant nr. 2021/40/Q/ST5/00066), carried out in collaboration with the Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences.

The contract will be concluded on a full-time basis for the period of 10 months with the possibility of extension. The remuneration under the contract will amount to approx. PLN 8.300,00 gross. Detailed employment conditions will be specified in the employment contract concluded between the employed person and the Director of INTiBS PAN.

Tasks description

We welcome ambitious young researchers to join our team conducting advanced experimental studies on topological matter, one of the hottest research areas in modern solid-state physics.

The key tasks of the post-doctoral investigator will be: determination of low-temperature electronic transport and thermodynamic properties of selected rare-earth bearing half-Heusler phases, calculation of their electronic structures, interpretation of the obtained physical data, edition of scientific publications, dissemination of results at scientific meetings, supervision of master students.

 

Requirements

The candidate must meet the requirements specified in uchwala136_2020-zal2.pdf and should:

• have a doctoral degree in physics, chemistry or materials science.
  In accordance with the requirements of the National Science Center, only a person may be admitted... (details are included in the above-mentioned Project Regulations);
  In accordance with the requirements of the National Science Center, only a person may be admitted whose doctoral degree have been obtained no earlier than 7 years before the year of employment in the project (details are included in the above-mentioned Project Regulations);
• have good command of English;
• demonstrate proper attitude to scientific work and skills for independent problem-solving. Preference will be given to candidates with hands-on experience in physical measurements, and/or electronic band structure calculations.

A candidate entering the competition should submit:

1. A diploma or a copy of the diploma in English or Polish (if in another language, an English translation must also be attached) confirming completion of the doctoral degree. If the diploma was obtained abroad, the candidate will be required to provide a legalised or apostilled original of the diploma before starting employment at the Institute (otherwise it will not be possible to conclude an employment contract). In the case of a degree obtained abroad which is not recognised in Poland on the basis of international agreements, the candidate will apply to the Institute for its nostrification. 2. 3. Scientific Curriculum Vitae, containing information about the scientific career: education and posts, articles published in peers-reviewed journals, participation in scientific conferences, internships, projects, awards and distinctions, as well as information on hands-on research experience and skills, and command of foreign languages.
4. Recommendation letters.

When signing the contract, the candidate will be required to submit an authorization to be included in the number of employees engaged in the scientific activity at the Institute, as well as to provide declarations that the publications arising from the project are part of the scientific output of the Institute.
