Low temperature phase transition in (NO)Cu(NO3)3

dr O. Volkova

M. V. Lomonosov Moscow State University, Moscow, Russia

Recently discussed, in literature, low dimensional cuprate (NO)Cu(NO3)3, as the closest to  the Nersesyan – Tsvelik point [1,2], is studied via measurements of magnetic susceptibility, specific heat, electron spin resonance, Raman spectroscopy, neutron and muon scattering at ultra – low temperatures. All data indicate the presence of one – dimensional antiferromagnetic chains in the structure with intrachain exchange interaction of about 130 – 170K. In the absence of magnetic field, the phase transition into long – range ordered phase takes place at TN = 0.58±0.01K. The measured broad and asymmetric internal field distribution is typical for an incommensurate magnetic structure with extremely low ordered magnetic moment, less than 0.01mB.
