Intriguing properties of transition metal carbides and nitrides (MXenes): thermoelectricity and skyrmions

Transition metal carbides and nitrides (MXenes) have recently joined the family of intensively researched two-dimensional materials exhibiting some interesting properties.

 During this talk, I would like to focus on the theoretical (based on density functional theory) predictions pointing out that suitably functionalized MXenes can reach thermoelectric figure of merit not accessible in other materials investigated so far. The second intriguing feature of MXenes predicted in our studies is the possibility to generate skyrmions by substitution of one transition metal by another.
