Wrocław Doctoral School of Institutes of Polish Academy of Sciences (WDS IPAS) announces special recruitment for a PhD student – scholarship holder in the research project titled "Interaction Between the Immune System and Gut Microbiota in Recurrent Respiratory Papillomatosis Dependent on Human Papillomavirus," commissioned by the National Science Centre (grant no. UMO-2023/51/B/NZ7/00799) at the Laboratory of Molecular Biology of Bacteriophages, Institute of Immunology and Experimental Therapy of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Wrocław.

We offer work in a dynamic and friendly team engaged in research on the influence of the bacterial microbiome and virome on human health.

Description of the Research Project

In our project, we aim to study a group of patients suffering from intestinal ailments and those with recurrent respiratory papillomatosis associated with HPV infection. Our hypothesis is that immunodeficiencies resulting from abnormalities in the gut microbiome structure may significantly impact the course of HPV 6/11 infection. The inspiration for this research is the unresolved mystery of the background of immunodeficiencies as a source of elimination or chronic presence of HPV, as well as the unexplained influence of gut microbiota on local and systemic immunity to HPV infection. Moreover, these issues may be directly related to the development of related diseases and changes in gut microbiota resulting from lifestyle and civilizational changes.
