Wrocław Doctoral School of Institutes of Polish Academy of Sciences (WDS IPAS) announces a special recruitment for a PhD student - fellow (contractor, two vacant positions) in the research project entitled " Phosphors for UVC LEDs: Self-Disinfecting Surfaces” carried out on behalf of the National Science Center (grant OPUS no. 2021/41/B/ST5/03792) in the Optical Spectroscopy Division of the Institute of Low Temperature and Structure Research, Polish Academy of Sciences (ILT&SR PAS) in Wrocław, headed by Prof. Przemysław Dereń.
Recruitment is conducted in accordance with the Rules of Recruitment to the Wrocław Doctoral School of Institutes of Polish Academy of Sciences for the academic year 2021/22 found at the internet link: rules of recruitment and in accordance with the provisions of the Act of 20 July 2018. Law on Higher Education and Science.
Requirements
- Master's degree, Master of Engineering or equivalent degree in chemistry, materials engineering, physics or related disciplines, entitling to undertake education in doctoral school; candidates who are final year students should provide a certificate of the above degree by September 30 of this year;
- scientific interests in the area of spectroscopy, polycrystal synthesis, luminescence;
- knowledge and experience in polycrystal synthesis methods will be an additional advantage;
- motivation to scientific work, reliability, independence, ability to work in a team, creativity, personal culture;
- fulfilling the admission requirements for the Wrocław Doctoral School of Institutes of Polish Academy of Sciences in accordance with the Rules of Recruitment to the Wrocław Doctoral School of Institutes of Polish Academy of Sciences;
- the candidate must provide evidence of English language proficiency at level B2 or higher in the form of a certificate or information in the diploma supplement that the course taken during the studies was at the required level (if there is no information about the course level in the supplement, a certificate from the Dean's Office is necessary).
The doctoral student will be required to:
- implementation of an individual research plan, consistent with the ongoing research project;
- synthesis of fluoride or oxide compounds in the form of micro- and nanocrystals doped with selected rare earth ions, also core-shell samples
- structural characterization of the materials obtained;
- investigation of spectroscopic properties, including the processes of the so-called up-conversion of radiation;
- analysis of data, preparation of reports and scientific publications;
- participation in scientific conferences.
Scholarship
A PhD student will receive a PhD scholarship during the 4-year training program. The PhD student may be awarded an increased scholarship financed for 48 months from the project funds in the amount of PLN 5000 gross.
