Quantum Spin Ice in Motion: From Programmable Monopoles to Emergent Hydrodynamics
Prof. Piotr Surówka

Artificial spin ice hosts emergent magnetic monopoles, but their quantum dynamics have remained largely unexplored. I will present a programmable dipolar spin-ice realization on a superconducting-qubit platform, enabling direct observation of monopole motion in a quantum-coherent regime . We find super-diffusive transport, signaling dynamics beyond classical stochastic behavior and consistent with coherent propagation in an emergent gauge manifold. I will then outline how such systems admit an effective hydrodynamic description of monopole matter, analogous to magnetohydrodynamics in two dimensions . This provides a bridge between microscopic quantum dynamics and collective behavior, pointing toward a unified picture of emergent gauge systems out of equilibrium.
