The bright advancement of glass photonics

dr Maurizio Ferrari

Institute for Photonics and Nanotechnologies, National Research Council of Italy, Trento

Glass Photonics is pervasive in a huge number of human activities and drive the research in the field of enabling technologies. The lecture will present some recent results obtained by the consortium in rare earth doped photonic glasses and confined structures, in order to give some highlights regarding the state of art in glass photonics.

Wykład w ramach programu Visiting Professors finansowanego z funduszu Scientiae Wratislavienses ze środków Gminy Wrocław i przez NCBR (projekt RECOLA).

Maurizio Ferrari received the Doctor in Physics degree from Trento University, Italy. He is currently a Director of Research with the Institute for Photonics and Nanotechnologies, IFN-CNR, where he is the Head of the CSMFO Lab. (Characterization and Development of Materials for Photonics and Optoelectronics) and is the Head of the IFN-CNR Trento unit. Dr. Ferrari was elected in 2013 SPIE Fellow for achievements in synthesis and characterization of rare-earth doped optical materials and OSA Fellow in September 2017 for significant achievements in the spectroscopic characterization of glasses and glass-ceramics and their application to photonic structures and devices, as well as for actively serving the optical community. His main scientific area of research is devoted to Glass Photonics and covers: glasses, crystals and films for optical applications and photonics; energy transfer systems; integrated optics; nanocomposites materials and confined structures including photonic crystals, waveguides, microcavities, and microresonators. He is co-author of more than 400 publications and several book chapters. His bibliometric parameters are: h-index: 38 (Web of Science); Sum of the Times Cited: 5600.
